Drug Control and Abuse Prevention Department

The main function of the department is to ensure quality, safety, efficacy and proper use of drugs, medical supplies and instruments, pesticides, cosmetics and their raw and packaging materials through inspection, certification of competency and abuse prevention.

Major Responsibilities of the department are to:

  •  Prepare standards and directives for issuing certificate of 
     competence for drug manufacturers, importers, wholesalers,
     retail out-lets, health institutions and port of entry and exist

  •  Issues port clearance/entry/ exist permit for drugs

  •  Control manufacture, import, export distribution and use of 
     Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances (NPS) and precursor
     chemicals including their prescription papers

  •  Disposes pharmaceuticals unfit for use

  •  Prepare as directives/guidelines of
    bullet

    Good Manufacturing Practice and Inspection

    bullet

    Inspection of drug importers and wholesalers, retail outlets and health institutions

    bullet

    Control of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and precursor chemicals including their prescription papers

    bullet

    Disposal of pharmaceuticals unfit for use

The Department has Two Divisions:

Staff
The department is staffed with Pharmacists, Druggists, Agro-chemists, Psychologist and administrative staff
 

DACA

 

DACA is constructing a new laboratory and office building at it’s head quarters. The constru ction is scheduled to be completed in two years. Upon completion, DACA's Drug Quality control and toxicology laboratory will move to the new building. DACA envisages to be a Competent Drug Regulatory Authority in the Region.
