Drug Evaluation and Registration Department

The main function of the department is to ensure quality, safety and efficacy of drugs, traditional medicine, medical supplies and instruments, pesticides, cosmetics, and their raw and packaging materials through evaluation and certification.

Major responsibilities of the department :

  •  Evaluates the safety, efficacy and quality of locally produced or
     imported human and veterinary drugs, cosmetics, medical
     supplies, medical equipments and pesticides before and after
     they are made available in the market and issues, renews,
     revokes and suspends certificate of registration

  •  Prepares guidelines and standards for evaluation of human and
     veterinary drugs, medical supplies and equipments, pesticides, 
     traditional medicines and cosmetics including their raw and
     packaging materials

  •  Develops protocol, authorizes, monitors and evaluate clinical
     trials including use of the results

  •  Prepares, revises and categorizes List of drugs of the country

  •  Prepares, compiles and disseminates list of registered products
     and other scientific information

  •  Serves as a secretary of the National Drug Advisory Committee

The department has the following two divisions:

  •  Human & Veterinary Drug Evaluation & Registration

  •  Pesticides Evaluation & Registration

Staff
The department is staffed with Pharmacists, Veterinarians, Agronomist, Druggist, Medical Equipment Technologist an administrative staffs
 

DACA

 

DACA is constructing a new laboratory and office building at it’s head quarters. The constru ction is scheduled to be completed in two years. Upon completion, DACA's Drug Quality control and toxicology laboratory will move to the new building. DACA envisages to be a Competent Drug Regulatory Authority in the Region.
