Policies

Few elements of drug policy issues had been addressed prior to the first National Drug Policy. The first comprehensive National Drug Policy was formulated in 1993. Since then some amendments have been made in-line with:

The current economic policy which resulted in price deregulation, and comprehensive care of HIV/AIDS, policy on ARC drug supply and use has been formulated and put in action since July 2002 as complementary to the National Drug Policy
 

Legislations

  •  The Pharmaceutical sector had been regulated by Pharmacy
     regulation No. 288/64 of 1964

  •  This regulation has been replaced by the Drug Administration
     and Control Proclamation No. 176/99
    of June 1999 which is
     comprehensive enough to regulate the entire life cycle of
     pharmaceuticals.

Directives and standards

  • To Implement the various and legislations different directives and standards have been developed and put in action

DACA is constructing a new laboratory and office building at it’s head quarters. The constru ction is scheduled to be completed in two years. Upon completion, DACA's Drug Quality control and toxicology laboratory will move to the new building. DACA envisages to be a Competent Drug Regulatory Authority in the Region.
